At last, we will be announcing the winners of our "Cove to Captivity" Video Contest tomorrow! But there is one video we'd like you to see first. A poignant tribute to the more than 800 dolphins killed and the 164 taken captive during the 2013-2014 Operation Infinite Patience campaign, this video is the perfect way to close out this season's very emotional campaign that saw so many dolphins stolen from the sea, ripped from their families, and ultimately imprisoned for a life of captivity or slaughtered for human consumption.
Megan Rose Taylor is 17 years old. Due to some technicalities, she is not our contest winner. But we wanted you to see — and feel — her amazing work that spoke volumes to all of us at Sea Shepherd. In her own words, here is her statement about why she made this very special video:
"I am currently studying Animal Management at college and have always been passionate about animal welfare. When I learnt what was happening in Taiji, I was devastated and for a while felt ashamed to belong to the human race. That is until I discovered Sea Shepherd and the Cove Guardians who made me feel proud once again. Some say that to end such a powerful industry is impossible. But in life we have only two choices: try or don’t. Although at first I was speechless, I soon found the words that needed to be said; and so I give my voice to the dolphins of Taiji. I hope that my voice, their voice, is heard far and wide. I hope that it can inspire others to also give their voice. When the whole world screams no, we will be heard!"
Thank you, Megan! We adore your video, your thoughtful poem, and your gentle heart. For the dolphins...
